The Central Spartans the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Central has not done well against Calexico recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Central came out on top against Calexico by a score of 48-37.
Central found their leader in underclassman Maryanne Barrett, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barrett has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya McClain, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Palo Verde Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Calexico on Thursday, taking the game 40-29.
Central's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Palo Verde Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Central came up short against Palo Verde Valley in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 47-43. Can Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
