South Fork is 0-6 against Eureka since May of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cubs will face off against the Loggers at 4:00 p.m. South Fork has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Thursday, South Fork didn't have quite enough to beat Ferndale and fell 14-13.
Shawn Schmidt made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Mason Bell, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Eureka entered their tilt with Del Norte on Wednesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors a 4-0 shutout.
Ryder Mitchell made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Garrett Levitt, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Bryson Burns was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Eureka's win bumped their record up to 18-6. As for South Fork, their loss dropped their record down to 7-16.
South Fork might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from Eureka when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
