McIntosh County Academy hasn't had much luck against Screven County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will face off against the Gamecocks at 5:30 p.m. McIntosh County Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Screven County will be coming in after a loss.
McIntosh County Academy came out on top against Bradwell Institute on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Buccaneers were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Buccaneers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Amaya Tucker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Tucker was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexandria Sanders, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Paisley Poppell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
McIntosh County Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Screven County came up short against Metter on Thursday and fell 7-3. The Gamecocks have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Screven County now has a losing record of 9-10. As for McIntosh County Academy, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-18.
McIntosh County Academy might still be hurting after the 18-2 defeat they got from Screven County in their previous meeting on September 4th. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
