Sun Valley Magnet had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. Manuel Marquez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sun Valley Magnet is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-3 otherwise. Marquez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesse Diaz, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Emerson Benitez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Sun Valley Magnet pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Community Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sun Valley Magnet will venture away from home to challenge Reseda at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Community Charter, they will challenge Valor Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
