Basketball Game Preview: Tri-City Christian Eagles vs. Chula Vista Spartans

The Tri-City Christian Eagles will take on the Chula Vista Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

After dropping their season opener at home, Chula Vista is headed out to face a Eagles squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Tri-City Christian was dealt a 64-33 defeat at the hands of Christian on Thursday. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-17.

Tri-City Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Katie Busch, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards, and Talia Anthony, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Busch is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 14 games she's played dating back to last season. Ava Johnson was another key player, putting up four points and three steals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chula Vista). They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat San Ysidro 52-19. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Tri-City Christian better focus on containing Nyla Dixie and Tracy Echoku as the pair were huge in Chula Vista's win. Dixie almost dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 14 rebounds, and nine steals, while Echoku dropped a double-double on 17 points and 21 boards.

Chula Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Tri-City Christian came up short against Chula Vista in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, falling 36-30. Can Tri-City Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
