Basketball Recap: Faith Hayes Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mariposa County, Turlock Christian was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They managed a 50-44 win over the Gustine Reds. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Turlock Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Faith Hayes, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Hayes is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Christiana Eivaz, who almost dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocks.

Turlock Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Gustine still got an impressive performance from *Shandel Aguilera, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 14 boards, and 13 steals. Those 14 boards gave Aguilera a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Ventura, who posted seven points and six boards.

The victory got Turlock Christian back to even at 4-4. As for Gustine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Turlock Christian will welcome Waterford at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Gustine, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mariposa County at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
