Tanner Garnett and Owen Robertson did most of the damage at the plate: Garnett went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles, while Robertson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Garnett has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Trimble, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Exeter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Washington Union made easy work of Crater on Wednesday and carried off an 8-0 victory.
Trey Morris made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Dailon Finderup was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Matthew Lozano was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Exeter's win bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Washington Union, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 16-5.
Washington Union's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Exeter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. It's a different story for Washington Union, though, as they've only averaged .234. Will they be able to contain Exeter's hitters?
