The Livermore Cowboys will head out on the road to square off against the Petaluma Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Livermore's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Petaluma's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Livermore is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Dublin just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Gaels by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cowboys have suffered against the Gaels since March 17, 2021.
Dom Villasenor was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Livermore saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Lee, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Lee a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Petaluma put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Archie Williams 8-6.
Dalton Deadman was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Quinn Gaidmore, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Petaluma kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Petaluma's record is now 3-0. As for Livermore, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Livermore has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Petaluma struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Livermore skirted past Petaluma 3-2 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Livermore repeat their success, or does Petaluma have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
