Basketball Game Preview: Vaughn White Tigers vs. East Valley Falcons

Vaughn has gone 10-0 against East Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vaughn White Tigers will face off against the East Valley Falcons at 5:30 p.m. Vaughn hasn't scored more than 25 points for eight games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

On Monday, Vaughn ended up a good deal behind Triumph Charter and lost 38-22.

The losing side was boosted by Estefany Contreras, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 boards and nine blocks. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last 11 times she's played.

Meanwhile, East Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against Sherman Oaks CES, falling 79-7. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1044th, while the Knights are ranked 406th).

Jordin Lim was East Valley's leading scorer, having posted four points. Milan Riley held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

Vaughn's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for East Valley, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Vaughn has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like East Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything came up roses for Vaughn against East Valley when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 69-38 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vaughn since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
