The Garey Vikings had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.8 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-31 victory over Edgewood. That's another feather in the cap for Garey, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Armani Owens continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Herrera, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Garey has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. As for Edgewood, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garey will take on Ganesha at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Ganesha will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1201st, while Garey is ranked 561st). As for Edgewood, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bassett at 4:45 p.m. Bassett comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
