Lamar is 8-2 against St. Mary since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Thunder will host the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Lamar proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past La Junta 7-5. The victory continues a trend for the Thunder in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.

Alex Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Lamar's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 3-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Alex Santos was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Krypten Kurtz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They won by a run and slipped past Colorado Springs Christian 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted against the Lions since May 14, 2016.
Ron Karin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 15 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Eberhart, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Lamar's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for St. Mary's, their win bumped their record up to an identical 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lamar has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lamar got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against St. Mary's by a conclusive 19-1 score. Do the Thunder have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
