The Olympian Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Chula Vista Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Olympian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Chula Vista is facing Olympian at the wrong time: Olympian suffered their first home loss of the season on Monday and they're likely out for redemption. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Aaron Gonzalez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Olympian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Mendoza, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Aramis Berrios also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Chula Vista posted their closest win since May 2, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Campbell Hall 6-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Brandon Lucero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Chula Vista is 3-0-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4-1 otherwise. Lucero was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Gomez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Eric Zepeda, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Chula Vista's victory bumped their record up to 6-4-2. As for Olympian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3-1.
Olympian came out on top in a nail-biter against Chula Vista in their previous matchup back in April of 2017, sneaking past 3-1. Does Olympian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Chula Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
