Sage Creek has enjoyed the comforts of home their last five games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Torrey Pines Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Sage Creek's game was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They snuck past Oceanside with a 55-50 win. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, as Sage Creek did.
Sage Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Harmony Lawler led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Lawler is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Hannah Keehn was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Torrey Pines over the Mustangs in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Torrey Pines blew past the Mustangs 55-35. Given Torrey Pines' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Mustangs are ranked 655th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Torrey Pines got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Trusso out in front who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Averi Kwok, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Sage Creek's record is now 14-8. As for Torrey Pines, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sage Creek have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 41 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Torrey Pines struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sage Creek was taken down by the Falcons 57-30 when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Trusso, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Now that Sage Creek knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
