On Tuesday, Florence was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 41-36 to Schulenburg. Florence has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Florence saw an underclassman step up: Emerson Herring scored 21 points. Herring scored a full 58.3% of Florence's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Laney Ellis, who scored five points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Schulenburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alana Herzik, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for Herzik. The team also got some help courtesy of Fay Kutac, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Florence bumped their record down to 2-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.7 points per game. As for Schulenburg, their victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Florence will be home for the holidays to greet Lampasas at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Schulenburg will be home for the holidays to greet Ganado at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
