The Wellington Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Platte Valley Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
After a string of three wins, Wellington's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Liberty Common. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wellington in their matchups with Liberty Common: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ava Essay, who scored 18 points along with four steals. That was a full 41.9% of Wellington's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookelyn Jones, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 66-44 defeat at the hands of Highland. While losing is never fun, Platte Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Highland is ranked 96th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Lauryn Uyemura, who scored 12 points along with five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedi Nelson, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Platte Valley, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
