The Kelseyville Knights are taking a road trip to square off against the Middletown Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kelseyville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
Kelseyville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Lower Lake on Friday. Kelseyville never let Lower Lake get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Brock Barrick made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in hits (zero). He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Kyle Watkins was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Casey Huston, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Kelseyville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lower Lake only posted an OBP of .062.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Middletown and Piner, and Piner kept the tradition alive. Middletown lost 12-1 to Piner on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Middletown's loss dropped their record down to 2-4-1. As for Kelseyville, their record now sits at 6-2.
Middletown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kelseyville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .511. It's a different story for Middletown, though, as they've only averaged .302. Will they be able to contain Kelseyville's hitters?
Kelseyville took their victory against Middletown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kelseyville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
