The Mira Monte Lions are still winless after their match against the Garces Memorial Rams on Friday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. Mira Monte fell just short of Garces Memorial by a score of 33-30. Mira Monte lost against Garces Memorial in their previous head to head back in November, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 31-22 score last time.
Garces Memorial found their leader in underclassman Irene Bravo, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 15 steals. Those 15 steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariam Luque, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Mira Monte has fallen quite a ways from their 19-7 record last season and are now at 0-5. As for Garces Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 3-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mira Monte will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Golden Valley at 6:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Golden Valley is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Garces Memorial will be home for the holidays to greet Kennedy at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Kennedy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Monday.
