Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask SouthWest Edgecombe). They walked away with a 79-67 victory over the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars on Friday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Jaguars are ranked 466th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead SouthWest Edgecombe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alijah Lassiter, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. Those 18 points gave Lassiter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Bridgers, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Rocky Mount Prep still got an impressive performance from Rashyd Johnson, who posted 23 points. Qualique Jones was another key player, putting up 11 points.

The win was the third in a row for SouthWest Edgecombe, bringing their record for this year to 7-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

SouthWest Edgecombe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-33 victory against North Edgecombe on the 28th. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 82-42 defeat against Northwest Halifax on the 3rd.
