Central has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Holtville Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Central suffered their closest loss yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Palo Verde Valley by a score of 56-54. Central has struggled against Palo Verde Valley recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Central had strong showings from Victoria Zamora, who scored 17 points along with six steals, and Mya McClain, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. McClain has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janelle Thomas, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Holtville beat Coronado 42-33 on Saturday. The victory was just what Holtville needed coming off of a 57-23 defeat in their prior contest.
Central has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Holtville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.
Central took a serious blow against Holtville in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 63-28. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Central was down 32-8.
