Spencer hasn't had much luck against Columbus recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Greenwave will head out on the road to square off against the Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Spencer turned things around against Carver on Friday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 14-7 victory. The Greenwave not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 6th (when they won 18-3).
Spencer got a massive performance out of Johnnie Taylor, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave Taylor a new career-high. Noah Buller was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Spencer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Columbus won against Miller County on Saturday with four runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Blue Devils walked away with a 4-1 win over Marion County.
Michael Nottleman was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ren Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Columbus' record is now 18-10. As for Spencer, the victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 3-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Spencer has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Columbus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Spencer might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Columbus in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Greenwave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
