Softball Recap: Stratford Academy Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Stratford Academy came out on top against Central Fellowship Christian Academy on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run first inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Lancers. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Reagan Ray made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Hayden Craddock and Cordtney Galoia did most of the damage at the plate: Craddock got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI, while Galoia got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave Craddock a new career-high. Hatsy Russell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Stratford Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Stratford Academy's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Central Fellowship Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stratford Academy will head out to challenge Pinewood Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Central Fellowship Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Gatewood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 11.3 runs per game this season.
