The Homer-Center Wildcats's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Windber and snuck past 39-37. The victory was all the more spectacular given Homer-Center's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Windber is ranked 151st).
Windber's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylie Gaye, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Andrews, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Homer-Center now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Windber, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Homer-Center will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Richland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Richland will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Windber is on the road again on Friday and play against Shade at 3:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Shade comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
