Poway and Vista are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Titans will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Poway has ten straight wins, Vista has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Poway beats Vista with ten runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went the Titans' way against Valley Center on Friday as they made off with a 10-2 victory.
Davis Rodriguez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Poway let Owen Digenan and Cruz Gonzalez run wild. Digenan went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Gonzalez went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Digenan has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Resch, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Poway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Vista came up short against Westview on Friday, falling 8-1.
Vista saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Seth Coleman, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
Poway's win bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
Poway beat Vista 6-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
