Lincoln and Ann Sobrato are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Lions will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lincoln has 12 straight wins, Ann Sobrato has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Lincoln made easy work of Hill and carried off an 11-1 victory. Considering the Lions have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayden Peters made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Cole Stromberg looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Andres Garcia was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Moises Ledesma also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Ann Sobrato didn't have quite enough to beat Piedmont Hills on Thursday and fell 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.
Dylan Brown was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Raines, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Lincoln pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Ann Sobrato, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.
Lincoln suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Ann Sobrato when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
