The Homer Knights waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins but they left with four. They snuck past Hartington-Newcastle with a 59-55 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Homer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alexandra Albrecht out in front who scored 18 points along with three steals. Albrecht hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Harris, who scored 17 points along with five assists and five steals.
Homer has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. As for Hartington-Newcastle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Homer will take on Pender at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pender is coming into the match with seven straight defeats on the road, meaning Homer will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Hartington-Newcastle, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Wausa at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Wausa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Monday.
