The Ceres Bulldogs posted their closest win yet this season on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 32-29 victory over Johansen. Winning may never get old, but Ceres sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Marissa Renteria continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolissa Guillory, who scored seven points.
When it comes to explaining why Johansen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jamie Zarilla. Despite the final result, she scored four points along with nine steals and seven rebounds. Zarilla is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brenda Constancio, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Ceres pushed their record up to 12-5 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Johansen, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Ceres on the road again on Monday and play against Los Banos at 7:15 p.m. on January 15th. Los Banos is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Johansen, they will be playing at home against Lathrop at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Lathrop is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
