Basketball Recap: Union Colony Prep Takes a Loss

Union Colony Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Heritage Christian Eagles, falling 78-50. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Eagles are ranked 103rd).

When it comes to explaining why Union Colony Prep lost, don't look at Josiah Rodriguez. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 17 on his way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Rodriguez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Pablo Mendoza-Munoz, who posted six points and 14 boards.

Even though they lost, Union Colony Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Leading Heritage Christian to victory were Levi Hermsen and Alec Lundy. Hermsen almost dropped a double-double on 31 points and nine steals, while Lundy went 11 of 23 en route to 27 points and seven rebounds. That's the most steals Hermsen has posted since back in January of 2024. David Kubie was another key player, putting up six points along with six assists and five boards.

Union Colony Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Heritage Christian, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.

Union Colony Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-52 loss against Belleview Christian on the 30th. As for Heritage Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 81-36 defeat against Resurrection Christian on the 30th.
