The Gatewood Gators will challenge the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gatewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Gatewood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Central Fellowship Christian Academy on Tuesday as Gatewood made off with a 17-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gators.
Hunter Johnson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Haley, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Gatewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, Tattnall Square Academy had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Patriots.
Tucker Brown and Wyatt Still made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Brown struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Still pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February of 2024. At the plate, Brown went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Still went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That stolen base marked the first that Brown snagged this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tristan Turner, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Griffey Gorman, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Gatewood's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Tattnall Square Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Gatewood came out on top in a nail-biter against Tattnall Square Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Does Gatewood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tattnall Square Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
