On Friday, things could have been worse for Bishop Union, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-35 loss to Eastside. While losing is never fun, Bishop Union can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 818th, while Eastside is ranked 297th).
Despite the loss, Bishop Union saw an underclassman step up: Kristin Allen scored 14 points along with six steals. Allen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Henny Charley was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Bishop Union struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Eastside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominique Burnett led the charge by scoring 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Correa , who scored 11 points.
Bishop Union's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Eastside, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.
Bishop Union will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Desert at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. Desert's defense has only allowed 27.8 points per game this season, so Bishop Union's offense will have their work cut out for Bishop Union. Eastside will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against South at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th.
