Highland Tech has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Cherryville Ironmen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherryville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Highland Tech, who comes in off a win.
Even though Highland Tech has not done well against Shelby recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Highland Tech enjoyed a cozy 48-33 win over Shelby. The win was just what Highland Tech needed coming off of a 55-34 loss in their prior match.
Highland Tech's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katie Fangman, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Fangman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Reese Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Cherryville suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were dealt a 69-27 loss at the hands of Bessemer City. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Cherryville has suffered against Bessemer City since January 7, 2022.
Highland Tech's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Cherryville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Highland Tech didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Cherryville in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 34-28 victory. Will Highland Tech repeat their success, or does Cherryville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
