Quincy is 9-1 against Loyalton since May of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the Quincy Trojans will get right back to it and host the Loyalton Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on February 7th. Quincy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
In what's become a running theme this season, Quincy gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 59-32 victory over Chester. Given Quincy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while Chester is ranked 759th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Quincy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jenna Peay out in front who scored 12 points. Peay is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. Shelby Nussle was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, Loyalton ended up a good deal behind Portola on Monday and lost 47-28. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Loyalton in their matchups with Portola: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite their loss, Loyalton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sophie Holland, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Ellie Weaver, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Quincy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Loyalton, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8.
Quincy was able to grind out a solid victory over Loyalton when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 40-27. Will Quincy repeat their success, or does Loyalton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
