Holden Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jacob Morris was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Isaac Gauthier also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Delta sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Pendleton Heights on Thursday.
Delta saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Overholt, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
New Palestine's record is now 15-8. As for Delta, their record now sits at 13-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. New Palestine has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went New Palestine's way against Delta in their previous matchup on May 6th, as New Palestine made off with an 18-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
