The King & Queen Central Royal Tigers won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They were outmatched by Essex on the road and fell 62-23. While losing is never fun, King & Queen Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Essex is ranked 131st).
Amelia Moaney and Kaymaria King certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Moaney scored nine points, while King scored seven points.
Morgan Self was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 23 rebounds for Essex. Self is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Keimare Gray, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds.
King & Queen Central's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Essex, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.
King & Queen Central will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mathews at 6:15 p.m. As for Essex, they will head out on the road to square off against Lancaster at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Lancaster: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Essex has snatched up nine consecutive wins on the road.
