The Davis Blue Devils waltzed into their game Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Wood 63-45. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 15 more assists than your opponent, as Davis did.
Leading Davis to victory were Tessa Schouten and Vidya Merchant. Schouten dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Merchant scored 15 points. The match was Schouten's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Cherry, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Wood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Natalia Sanchez. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with three steals. Sanchez scored a full 37.8% of Wood's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sa?nyah Stewart, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Davis' win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Wood, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Davis' road trip will continue as they head out to face Pioneer at 9:30 a.m. on December 28th. Pioneer is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games. Wood and Natomas will round out the year against one another at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at.
