The Severance Silver Knights had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.1 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 69-39 win over Niwot at home. Severance has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 23 points or more this season.
Severance found their leader in underclassman Blake Varney, who scored 15 points along with five assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Ewoniuk, who scored 14 points.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Rodanski, who scored nine points along with two blocks. Jackson Carano was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Severance is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Niwot, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Severance won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. The timing isn't great for Fort Morgan: they have been struggling with eight straight losses at home, while the Silver Knights have snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. Niwot will take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Skyline knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully the Cougars like a good challenge.
