Cabrillo hasn't had much luck against San Marcos recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Conquistadores will be taking part in a tournament against the Royals at 7:00 p.m.
Cathedral hit Cabrillo with a five-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Conquistadores fell just short of the Phantoms by a score of 8-6.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Marcos). They blew past Lakewood 11-1 on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Royals considering their two-run performance the game before.
David Burkholder looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has become a key player for San Marcos: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
At the plate, Quinn Melton was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. Patrick Foster was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
San Marcos kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
San Marcos has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cabrillo, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
Cabrillo might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from San Marcos in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will the Conquistadores have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
