Basketball Recap: LaVille Takes a Loss

If LaVille was riding high fresh off their 56-18 takedown of Argos on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lancers took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jimtown Jimmies on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lancers in their meetings with the Jimmies: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, LaVille still got an impressive performance from Lance Edison, who shot 55% from the field en route to 25 points and six rebounds. Edison's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Andre Gonzales, who posted ten points and four steals.

Jimtown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zander Whitaker led the charge by putting up 11 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Those five assists gave Whitaker a new career-high. Will Spurgeon was another key player, scoring 17 points and five rebounds.

LaVille's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Jimtown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. LaVille will venture away from home to face off against Manchester at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers will be up against the Squires' rather soft defense (which has allowed 69.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Jimtown, they are taking a road trip to square off against NorthWood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jimmies will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
