Troy Glaus, a 13-year MLB veteran and MVP of the 2002 World Series was hired Friday to lead the
Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.) baseball program, which was named the MaxPreps National Champion in 2016.
Last season, Buchanan went 22-10.
"Troy Glaus is a tremendous hire for Buchanan High School," athletic director Kory Anderson told
the Fresno Bee. "Troy brings a lot of knowledge, experience, and excitement to Bears baseball. We couldn't be more excited."
The former Los Angeles Angel replaces Brad Fontes, who resigned in June citing health issues.
In 2016, Buchanan went 30-1, the best record in school history, and was named the MaxPreps National Champion. The Bears' only loss came against Clovis North. However, Buchanan defeated Clovis North three other times, including a 4-0 win in the Central Section Division I championship game.
Glaus led the Angels to the 2002 World Series title over the San Francisco Giants, clubbing three home runs with eight RBI in the seven-game victory. The four-time All-Star led the American League in 2000 with 47 of his 320 career home runs.
