If the Newbury Park Panthers were feeling good off their 65-6 takedown of the Agoura Chargers last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Newbury Park took a 72-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calabasas on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Newbury Park still got an impressive performance from Kierabella Coletta-Todd, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 17 rebounds. That was a full 50.8% of Newbury Park's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Komatsu, who scored 13 points.
Jocelynn Townsend was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds for Calabasas. Maddy Tauro was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Newbury Park has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 21-5 record this season. As for Calabasas, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newbury Park will take on Westlake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westlake has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 597 points over their last nine contests. As for Calabasas, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Palisades on January 27th.
