While Cherryville put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Shelby. Everything went the Cherryville Ironmen's way against the Shelby Golden Lions as the Cherryville Ironmen made off with a 19-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Ironmen, who have now won four games by 13 runs or more so far this season.
Grace Capps made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Capps was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Cherryville got a massive performance out of Emma Proctor, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Proctor has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Weathers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Cherryville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Cherryville's record is now 5-2. As for Shelby, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.
Coming up, Cherryville will welcome East Gaston at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Gaston will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Cherryville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Shelby, they will head out to square off against Lincolnton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
