Baseball Recap: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Triumphs

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 6-14 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Hoover Tornados 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since February 20th.

Ceejay Perez was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-14 when he doesn't).

As for Hoover, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 17, 2024.

On Hoover's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Cano, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Another was Eli Legino, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy will welcome Glenn at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hoover, they will be playing at home against Muir at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Tornados surely won't give up without a fight.
