San Ramon Valley and California are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Wolves will be playing at home against the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Ramon Valley has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while California will come in with seven straight wins.
San Ramon Valley's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when De La Salle hitters got past them. The Wolves came up short against the Spartans on Friday, falling 10-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wolves have suffered since March 4th.
San Ramon Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Wall, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. Colton Fitzgibbon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, California beat Skyline 8-3 on Monday.
Tommy Casserly looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Johnny Edwards was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Angelo Sherman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
California kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
California's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for San Ramon Valley, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
San Ramon Valley beat California 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
