After a string of seven wins, the Covenant Day Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell 73-63 to Cannon. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Covenant Day lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Green. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 3 assists. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Michael Marcus Jr., who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Covenant Day's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Cannon, they pushed their record up to 16-6 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covenant Day will take on Charlotte Latin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Charlotte Latin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Covenant Day is ranked 34th). As for Cannon, they will be playing at home against Charlotte Country Day School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
