The Middlebury Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Milton Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Middlebury put up the most runs they have all season on Saturday. Everything went their way against Vergennes as they made off with a 14-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Milton got their first taste of in-conference action on Monday and they started things off strong. They skirted past Vergennes 13-12. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Commodores: they've now won four in a row.
Connor Newton spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and eight unearned) runs on ten hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Milton is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Milton got a massive performance out of Aden Cota, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that Cota has snagged this season. Brody Allard was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Milton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Middlebury's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Milton, the win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-7.
Middlebury was able to grind out a solid victory over Milton when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
