The West Park Panthers had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Oakmont by a score of 56-46 on Thursday. For West Park, this counts as revenge for the 50-46 defeat Oakmont walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Leading West Park to victory were Aliyah Villarama and Jill Ngo. Villarama scored 15 points, while Ngo scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bernadette Davies, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Oakmont saw an underclassman step up: Kaitlyn Fayter scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That was a full 54.3% of Oakmont's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sophia Bodnar was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
West Park's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Oakmont, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Park will take on Nevada Union at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Park has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Oakmont, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. Ponderosa is coming into the match with four straight victories on the road, so Oakmont is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
