The Glascock County Panthers will challenge the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The last four games Glascock County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, it was close, but Glascock County sidestepped Brentwood for a 7-6 victory.
Meanwhile, Briarwood Academy entered their tilt with Augusta Prep Day last Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Cavaliers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Buccaneers have posted against the Cavaliers since March 16, 2023.
Blake Tench was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Banks DeMore was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Briarwood Academy is undefeated when DeMore posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carson Callaway, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Briarwood Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.
Glascock County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Briarwood Academy, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Glascock County took their win against Briarwood Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 14-3 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buccaneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
