The Sonoma Academy Coyotes will take on the Technology Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Sonoma Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
While Sonoma Academy's victory against Calistoga wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Coyotes had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 4-3 on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Coyotes, who have now won three contests in a row.
Sonoma Academy's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sean Stroud, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another was Sam Tyko, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Technology). They blew past Roseland Collegiate Prep 18-1 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won four in a row.
Tyler Scullion made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Damian Padilla was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Pablo Chinchilla, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Sonoma Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Technology, their win bumped their record up to 3-11-1.
Technology's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sonoma Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Technology, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Sonoma Academy's hitters?
Everything went Sonoma Academy's way against Technology when the teams last played back in April, as Sonoma Academy made off with a 16-5 victory. Will the Coyotes repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
