The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rincon/University Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rincon/University took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mica Mountain, who comes in off a win.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 23 to 2 on the offensive boards, a fact Mica Mountain proved on Thursday. They had just enough and edged Sabino out 57-54. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Mica Mountain.
It was another big night for Isabella Webb, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Mathie, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Rincon/University had to settle for a 46-43 loss against Mountain View on Monday. Rincon/University has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Rincon/University saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Leila O'Dowd, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. O'Dowd scored a full 37.2% of Rincon/University's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sabrina Wexler was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Mica Mountain now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Rincon/University, they bumped their record down to 5-6 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Mica Mountain hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 55.2 points per game. It's a different story for Rincon/University, though, as they've been averaging only 42.5 points per game. The only thing between Mica Mountain and another offensive beatdown is Rincon/University. Will they be able to keep them contained?
