Temple City hasn't had much luck against La Canada recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Temple City Rams will welcome the La Canada Spartans at 5:30 p.m. La Canada took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Temple City, who comes in off a win.
Temple City is headed into the match having just posted their biggest victory since December 17, 2024 on Monday. They claimed a resounding 58-31 win over Monrovia. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Temple City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kristi Huynh, who went 8 for 17 en route to 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Huynh has scored at least a third of Temple City's points. Another player making a difference was Alexis Yoshimura, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 15 points and five boards.
Temple City was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.
Meanwhile, La Canada ended up a good deal behind Saugus on January 4th and lost 59-41. The Spartans have struggled against the Centurions recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Temple City will have to keep a close watch on Kennedy Hunt and Madison Hunt, a pair of players who had a big impact on La Canada's prior game. Kennedy posted 11 points and five rebounds, while Madison earned six points in addition to ten boards and five steals. Madison is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played. Malia Harney was another key player, putting up ten points.
Temple City now has a winning record of 9-8. As for La Canada, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Temple City has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 26.2 boards per game. However, it's not like La Canada struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Temple City was dealt a bruising 62-34 defeat at the hands of La Canada in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of La Canada's Jennifer Musso, who went 6 for 12 en route to 19 points along with six assists and six boards. Now that Temple City knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
