Basketball Recap: Smethport Comes Up Short

Smethport lost against Austin back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Smethport Hubbers were beaten by the Austin Panthers 46-14. The Hubbers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-8.

Several Hubbers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Payton Neff, who posted six points. Neff is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Madelyn McKean was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Smethport dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Austin, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Smethport will face off against Otto-Eldred at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Otto-Eldred will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Smethport surely won't give up without a fight. As for Austin, they will square off against Coudersport at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Austin's defense has only allowed 24.8 points per game this season, so Coudersport's offense will have their work cut out for them.
